The approved venture projects have an all-out speculative capital of $5.7 billion. According to the press proclamation, the above projects are located in Battambang, Pursat, and Kampong Chhnang. They are also in Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, Preah Sihanouk, and Kampong Cham. They are also situated in the Prey Veng regions. Recently, the government approved clean energy projects worth $5.7 billion.
State head Hun Manet on Friday supported 23 clean energy venture projects for 2024-2029. These projects will add to expanding Cambodia’s portion of clean energy. The clean energy government approves projects worth $5.7 billion to promote sustainability. Read more news in the world update.
Directing the Bureau meeting, Mr. Hun Manet gave consent to clean energy venture projects for 2024-2029. The 23 ventures incorporate 12 solar projects, 6 wind projects, and 1 biomass consolidated solar project. Additionally, there is 1 LNG project. There is also 1 hydropower undertaking. Moreover, there are 2 energy storage station projects. This is according to the Chamber of Priests’ assertion. These projects include a significant investment as projects worth $5.7 billion have been approved by the clean energy government.
Among the over 23 improvement projects, there are 21 power station advancement projects. These projects have a total capacity of 3,950 MW. There are also 2 power storage station improvement projects with a limit of 2,000 MW. Each clean energy venture confirms the government’s commitment to innovation in the sector.
The tasks will resolve the issue of the absence of power sources. This is due to the changing circumstances of the arranged power source project improvement. The advancement of the ventures is beneficial to the Kingdom of Cambodia. It will meet the adequate and opportune stockpile of power to the growing interest in the public network.
It is expected to provide a strong and reasonable power supply to a wide range of shoppers. This applies to all pieces of the Realm of Cambodia, the official statement further stated.
“These activities will assist with reinforcing the energy security of the Realm of Cambodia’s power supply framework. They will diminish reliance on energy imports. Furthermore, they will promote the advancement of homegrown energy sources. They will also expand the improvement of clean energy,” read the Gathering of Priests’ assertion. Additionally, the approval of these projects is part of a larger plan worth $5.7 billion by the clean energy government to enhance energy security.
Cambodia intends to build its sustainable power offer to something like 70% by 2030. This will contribute to natural objectives and monetary growth, with a specific spotlight on energy proficiency.
These will likewise add to accomplishing Cambodia’s ecological objectives and Cambodia’s worldwide obligation to lessen ozone-depleting substance emanations. For more, you can check out here.
Right now, Cambodia has 62% of clean energy in the gross homegrown energy sources. “The power venture undertakings will add to expanding the portion of clean energy generation. The goal is to reach 70 percent by 2030 in the homegrown energy sources,” it added. Check another event in the news.
Advantages of Solar Energy
- Renewable & Sustainable Energy Source
- The sun provides an immense and constant supply of energy. Unlike fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas), which are finite, we won’t run out of sunlight for billions of years. It is the very definition of a sustainable resource.
- Reduces Electricity Bills
- By generating your own electricity, you draw less power from the utility grid. This immediately lowers your monthly electricity bill. In many areas, you can sell excess power back to the grid. This is possible through net metering. You turn your meter backwards and earn credits.
- Low Environmental Impact
- Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Solar panels generate electricity without air pollution. They do not emit carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases once installed. This is crucial for combating climate change.
- Reduces Water Usage: Traditional power plants (nuclear, coal, natural gas) require massive amounts of water for cooling. In contrast, solar PV systems require virtually no water to operate.
- Diverse Applications
- Solar energy can be used for a huge range of purposes:
- Electricity Generation for homes, businesses, and utilities.
- Heating (solar thermal systems for water and space heating).
- Charging everything from calculators to electric vehicles.
- Powering remote areas that are not connected to the electrical grid.
- Distill water in regions with clean water shortages.
- Solar energy can be used for a huge range of purposes:
- Low Operating Costs and Maintenance
- Solar systems have no moving parts (except in some solar-thermal systems), which makes them very reliable. They primarily require only occasional cleaning and an annual inspection. Once the initial installation cost is covered, the ongoing expenses are minimal.
- Energy Independence
- By investing in solar, countries can reduce their dependence on imported fossil fuels. This enhances their energy security. It also insulates their economy from global price spikes in oil and gas. On a smaller scale, homeowners can become less reliant on their utility company.
Disadvantages of Solar Energy
- High Initial Cost
- The upfront cost of purchasing and installing a solar panel system is significant. This includes the panels, inverters, batteries, wiring, and labor. Prices have dropped dramatically over the past decade. Despite this decrease, it remains a major investment. However, long-term savings and incentives often offset the cost.
- Intermittency and Reliability
- Solar energy is not produced at night and its production drops significantly on cloudy, rainy days or during winter. This intermittency means it cannot be a sole power source 24/7. It requires a solution for energy storage (like batteries) or a backup connection to the grid.
- Requires Significant Space
- To generate a large amount of electricity, you need a large number of solar panels. These panels require a lot of roof space or land. The efficiency of the panels (how well they convert sunlight to electricity) directly impacts how many panels are needed.
- Energy Storage is Expensive
- Solar energy can be stored in large batteries. This helps to overcome the problem of intermittency. The stored energy can then be used at night or on cloudy days. However, battery storage systems, like the Tesla Powerwall, are costly. They add significantly to the overall cost of a solar installation.
- Associated with Pollution
- While the operational phase is clean, the manufacturing, transportation, and installation of solar panels does generate greenhouse gas emissions. The industry also uses some hazardous materials in the production process, which need to be handled and disposed of properly. However, this pollution is minimal compared to the lifecycle emissions of fossil fuels.
- Geographic Limitations
- The efficiency of a solar system is highly dependent on geographic location. Areas that receive more direct, year-round sunlight (like deserts) are ideal. Locations with frequent clouds, rain, or higher latitudes will generate less energy per panel.
Summary Table
| Advantage | Disadvantage |
|---|---|
| Renewable & Sustainable | High Initial Cost |
| Lowers Electricity Bills | Intermittent (Needs Sun) |
| Low Environmental Impact | Requires Significant Space |
| Diverse Applications | Expensive Energy Storage |
| Low Operating Costs | Manufacturing Pollution |
| Energy Independence | Geographic Limitations |

Conclusion: Solar energy is a powerful, clean, and increasingly cost-effective technology that is vital for a sustainable future. Its main drawbacks—intermittency and high upfront cost—are being rapidly addressed by improvements in battery technology and declining prices. For most, the long-term financial and environmental benefits far outweigh the initial disadvantages.
