Maybe the site is no longer active. You’ve transferred ownership. Or you’re simply cleaning up your dashboard. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it.
- Log in to Yandex Webmaster
- Go to webmaster.yandex.com and sign in with the account that has access to the site.
- Select the Website
- From the dashboard, click on the site you want to remove using the Yandex Webmaster.
- Go to Site Settings
- On the left-hand sidebar, scroll down. Then click on “Site settings”. In Russian, this may appear as Настройки сайта if your language settings aren’t in English.
- Find the Delete Option
- Look for an option like “Remove site from Webmaster” (Удалить сайт из Вебмастера). It’s typically at the bottom of the settings page.
- Confirm the Removal
- Click the button and confirm that you want to remove the site. Note: this only removes the site from your Webmaster dashboard—it doesn’t delete the site from Yandex’s search index.

- Other verified users (if any) will still have access unless they also remove it.

In the global landscape of search engine optimization (SEO), webmasters often focus primarily on Google and Bing. However, for businesses targeting specific international markets, regional search giants become critically important. Two of the most significant are Yandex. It is the dominant search engine in Russia and neighboring countries.
Yandex Webmaster Tool vs. Baidu Comparative
Then, there is Baidu, which holds a commanding market share in China. To optimize for these engines, webmasters must use their respective webmaster platforms: Yandex Webmaster Tools and Baidu Search Resource Platform. The question is not about declaring an overall winner. It is about understanding which tool is superior for your specific target audience and business goals.
Yandex Webmaster Tool vs. Baidu Search Resource Platform: A Comparative Analysis
Comparing features directly is less useful. It is better to evaluate them based on their purpose. Consider the market and usability for a non-native audience.
| Aspect | Yandex Webmaster Tools | Baidu Search Resource Platform |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Market & Purpose | Designed for the Russian-speaking market (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, etc.). Essential for visibility in these regions. | Designed exclusively for the Chinese market. Absolutely mandatory for any visibility in mainland China. |
| Language Support | Excellent English Support. The interface, reports, help documentation, and even customer support are fully available in English. This makes it highly accessible for international webmasters. | Limited English Support. The interface is almost entirely in Mandarin Chinese. While browser translation plugins can help, they often create confusion with technical SEO terms. This is a significant barrier to entry. |
| Key Features & Data | • Very similar to Google Search Console in functionality. • Provides detailed search query reports, index coverage, and crawl stats. • ICalendar: A unique feature that shows how Yandex’s “MatrixNet” algorithm ranks your site’s quality over time. • Site Quality Index (SQI): A metric that scores your site’s overall quality in Yandex’s view. | • Focuses heavily on compliance and security with Chinese internet regulations. • Prioritizes mobile and AMP pages, as mobile usage is dominant in China. • Offers basic data on indexing, search queries, and backlinks. • Features are tailored for the Chinese web environment, which is heavily firewalled. |
| Verification Process | Straightforward. Similar to Google, offering HTML file upload, meta tag, or DNS record verification. | Can be complex for foreign entities. Often requires a phone number from mainland China for verification and may have additional steps for sites hosted outside China. |
| Importance for SEO | Critical for ranking well in Yandex. It provides direct insights into how the engine views your site. | Non-negotiable and fundamental. It is the primary tool for submitting URLs for indexing. Without it, Baidu’s crawler may have difficulty accessing and indexing sites hosted outside China. |
| Best For | Businesses, publishers, and webmasters targeting audiences in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and other CIS countries. | Businesses and organizations are serious about the Chinese market. They are prepared to navigate its technical and linguistic challenges. |
Which One is Better?
The answer to “which one is better” is entirely contextual:
- Choose Yandex Webmaster Tools if: Your target audience is in Russia or the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). It is the “better” tool for this region. This is because it is the only one that provides actionable data for the Yandex search engine. Its English-language support makes it far more accessible and easier to use for international marketers.
- Choose Baidu Search Resource Platform if: Your goal is to reach users in mainland China. In this context, Baidu is not just “better”—it is essential. There is no alternative for Baidu SEO. However, “better” here does not mean it’s a more user-friendly tool. It means it is the necessary and superior tool for its intended, singular purpose.
There is no overlap in their use cases. You do not choose between them based on features; you choose based on geography.
Considerations for Baidu: China’s Firewall
A crucial point that makes Baidu a unique challenge is the Great Firewall of China. For a website to rank effectively on Baidu, it is highly recommended that the website is:
- Hosted on a server within mainland China (which requires an ICP备案 license).
- Has a domain name that has been officially registered with the Chinese authorities.
Websites hosted outside China may load very slowly. They might also be completely inaccessible to both users and Baidu’s crawler. This makes SEO efforts futile regardless of how well you use the Search Resource Platform.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Yandex Webmaster Tools and Baidu Search Resource Platform serve different purposes. Comparing them is like comparing a key to a lock. Each is designed for a specific gate. Yandex Webmaster Tools is sophisticated and user-friendly.
It is a powerful platform that mirrors the functionality of Western tools. This makes it highly effective for penetrating the Russian-speaking market. In contrast, the Baidu Search Resource Platform is a specialized and mandatory gateway to the world’s largest internet market. However, it comes with significant language and technical barriers.
Therefore, neither tool is objectively “better” than the other. The correct choice is dictated solely by your target market. If your audience is in Moscow, Yandex is better. If your audience is in Beijing, Baidu is better. For businesses with global aspirations, an international SEO strategy might require both. This includes using Google and Bing for true worldwide reach.
