Tesla has announced a recall impacting over 27,000 of its much-anticipated Cybertrucks, citing issues with delayed rear-view camera images. This malfunction, which could impair driver visibility and raise the risk of accidents, has prompted Tesla to initiate a recall. However, the company assured that a software update would resolve the problem, minimizing the impact on drivers. Tesla reviews more than 27000 Cybertrucks to fix this issue.
The recall covers a majority of Cybertrucks in the U.S. It is the largest recall for Tesla’s electric truck so far. Previous recalls included one in April 2023 to address a loose accelerator pedal pad. There was another in June concerning windshield wiper and exterior trim issues. In this latest recall, Tesla reviews more than 27000 Cybertrucks to fix the problem promptly.
Tesla began delivering the Cybertruck in November 2023 after a two-year delay caused by production challenges and battery supply shortages. To date, Tesla has not revealed the production or delivery numbers for the Cybertruck, keeping investors eager for more details. More details are expected soon as Tesla reviews more than 27000 Cybertrucks to fix identified issues.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk introduced the futuristic Cybertruck. Its design is inspired by Blade Runner. This is part of a strategy to rejuvenate the company’s aging lineup. This is particularly important as electric vehicle demand has shown signs of slowing. Given the substantial resources invested in the Cybertruck’s development, any model issues are closely monitored by stakeholders. Tesla must review more than 27000 Cybertrucks to ensure reliability.
According to Tesla, the recall stems from a problem in the vehicle’s system. This may prevent the rear-view camera from completing its shutdown process before restarting. As a result, there can be a delay in displaying the rear-view image when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. In some cases, the screen may remain blank for up to six to eight seconds. This could hinder the driver’s visibility during critical moments. Hence, Tesla reviews more than 27000 Cybertrucks to fix this critical safety issue.
Tesla reported identifying the issue early in September. They confirmed that all Cybertrucks currently in production have already received the necessary software update to prevent the delay. Tesla’s proactive approach ensures that they review more than 27000 Cybertrucks to fix potential problems.

1. Exoskeleton & Design (The Most Obvious Feature)
- Ultra-Hard Exoskeleton: Instead of a traditional body-on-frame design, the Cybertruck uses a 3mm-thick, cold-rolled stainless steel exoskeleton. This makes the body extremely durable, resistant to dents, damage, and even corrosion.
- Armored Glass: Tesla claims the windows feature armor glass that is resistant to shattering. While its durability was famously demonstrated (with mixed results) at the unveiling, Tesla states it provides protection against impacts.
- Triangular Wedge Design: Its angular, geometric design is unlike any other vehicle on the road, contributing to its polarizing look. Tesla states this design also helps with structural integrity and durability.
2. Performance & Powertrain
The Cybertruck is offered in three variants, all featuring dual-motor all-wheel drive as a base:
- Single Motor RWD (Canceled): Originally announced, this base model appears to have been canceled. Current production focuses on the tri-motor and dual-motor versions.
- All-Wheel Drive (Dual Motor):
- 0-60 mph: ~4.1 seconds
- Range: 340 miles (EPA est.)
- Towing Capacity: 11,000 lbs
- Cyberbeast (Tri-Motor):
- 0-60 mph: 2.6 seconds
- Range: 320 miles (EPA est.)
- Towing Capacity: 11,000 lbs
All models feature an adaptive air suspension that provides up to 17 inches of ground clearance.
3. Utility & Functionality
- Vault (The Bed): The 6′ x 4′ bed is a lockable and weatherproof cargo vault. It has 120V and 240V power outlets in the bed. This allows you to power tools and other equipment on the go.
- Onboard Power & Outlets: Beyond the bed, the Cybertruck is essentially a massive power bank. It includes:
- A 120V AC outlet in the cabin.
- Multiple USB-C ports.
- The capability to power a home via Powershare bidirectional charging (requires additional hardware).
- Payload Capacity: An impressive 2,500 lbs of payload capacity across all variants.
- Towing Package: Comes standard with a tow hitch. It includes software features like Trailer Hitch Assist and Jack Mode. These features make hitching and towing easier.
- Front Trunk (Frunk): A large, sealed front trunk provides additional secure storage space.
- Mid-Gate (Rumored/Future): A highly anticipated but not yet officially delivered feature is a “mid-gate” (like the old Chevrolet Avalanche). This feature would allow the cabin to open into the vault. It enables the transportation of longer items like full sheets of plywood.
4. Interior & Technology
- Minimalist Interior: The interior follows Tesla’s minimalist philosophy, dominated by a massive 18.5-inch touchscreen for all controls.
- Steering Yoke: The truck features a steer-by-wire system. It comes with a yoke-style steering wheel. A regular steering wheel is now also an option.
- Premium Audio: A 15-speaker sound system with immersive audio is standard.
- Climate Control: A sophisticated HVAC system with HEPA filtration to provide “medical-grade” air quality inside the cabin.
- Seating: Comfortable seating for five adults, with a front bench seat option that allows for a sixth passenger.
- Glass Roof: A large glass roof provides a spacious, open feeling for all passengers.
5. Unique & Niche Features
- Powershare: This bidirectional charging feature allows the Cybertruck to power your home during an outage. It can also charge another EV. Additionally, you can run equipment directly from the truck’s massive battery.
- Range Extender: An optional range extender battery fits in the bed vault. It can increase the range to an estimated 470+ miles. However, it takes up about 1/3 of the bed space.
- Adaptive Air Suspension: The suspension can automatically lower at highway speeds for better efficiency or raise for off-roading. It can also “kneel” for easier access.
- Rear-Wheel Steering: This feature gives the Cybertruck a turning circle tighter than many small sedans (under 43 feet). It is surprisingly maneuverable despite its large size. Tesla calls this “crab walk” or agile turning mode.
